HIV/AIDS Basics: In the Age of High Impact Prevention is an online course available anytime, 24/7.

HIV Friendly is a one-hour presentation created by the HIV Prevention and Care Project at the University of Pittsburgh, School of Public Health. This presentation serves as an educational campaign designed to increase awreness and to share resources regarding HIV. Social Determinants and Health Equity: Widening the Lens in HIV Prevention April 22nd from 9:15 am to 4:00 pm. This will be a virtual training.

5.5 nursing CEUs are available for this training.

This one-day virtual training is designed to examine the effects of social determinants of health such as economic status, stigma, homophobia, racism and other social and political issues on risk, prevalence and access to services and strategies to address these concerns.

Training Objectives

  • Define terms related to social determinants of health
  • Explain how the values of social and personal responsibility may influence people’s understanding of health outcomes
  • Explain the relationship between social determinants and population health outcomes
  • Describe HIV disparities as demonstrated by current epidemiological data
  • Describe how social determinants can explain disparities in HIV prevalence
  • Explain how social determinants impact the stages of engagement
  • ways to integrate social determinants of health perspective into current HIV prevention work

HIV Testing in Nonclinical SettingsMay 6th and 7th, 2026, 9:15am to 4 pm. This will be a virtual training.

9  nursing CEU credits are available for this training.

HIV Testing in Nonclinical Settings is a streamlined six-step protocol training reflective of the scientific advances and evidence informed updates outlined in the CDC’s 2016 guidance, Implementing HIV Testing in Nonclinical Settings: A Guide for HIV Testing Providers. Key influences on this curriculum have been shifts in HIV prevention. care, treatment, and the policies that followed, emphasis on serostatus specific referral and active linkage. A person’s current circumstances are explored with less extensive pre and post test counseling.

Prerequisite: Link sent with confirmation letter prior to training

Training Objectives:

    • Utilize communication techniques to successfully build client rapport
    • Incorporate window period summary in client focused re-testing messaging where both rapid and nonrapid testing offered
    • Integrate the HIV Seven-Step Protocol into the HIV antibody testing process
    • Improve the ability to link clients living with or at high risk for HIV into care and prevention services
    • Define Program Collaboration Service Integration of viral hepatitis, STIs, and TB into offered screening services

The Cultural Humility – May 20th and 21st from 9:15am-4pm. This will be a virtual training.

This training will equip participants with the skills necessary for being mindful of delivering services in a framework of cultural humility.

By the end of the training participants will be able to:

  • Define cultural humility vs cultural competency
  • Explain the importance of utilizing cultural humility in the workplace
  • View cultural through a strength perspective
  • Explain the role of health disparities and cultural humility
  • Explore how cultural humility principles can be integrated into the work space
